Makeover

Saturday, February 27, 2010

I have found a magazine template that actually works for me so hence the new layout. I liked the old stuff but there was one minor problem...

I couldn't read it.

It was pretty yes, but I couldn't read my own blog so yeah. Shazam!

The days when I spend my life glued to Gimp and OpenOffice are fast approaching so I'll probably finally make a fancy shmancy header soon. I made a logo but I don't actually really like it... I'll get around to that the same time I post all the stuff that's actually on my to-post list rather than posting randomness.

10 items $10 and under on Etsy

Friday, February 26, 2010

Etsy: an online community for buying and selling unique, handmade, and vintage stuff.

One of the things I like doing is looking up stuff that's under 10 dollars (because i'm a college student and brokeness is a fact of life)

So I've put together 10 things that caught my eye.

5 Pin Pack Attack 3: AkumuInk's Shop
I love buttons, especially cute ones that come in groups. :D

Mustache Mug- 2 sided: UrbanAntix's Shop
These remind me of those cups with the noses drawn on them :)

Stone - Pure Organic Mineral Eye Color: Orglamix's Shop
Another thing I really like about Etsy. Lots of sellers sell makeup with less chemicals and junk in them. This seller also offers a 100% guarantee and a 14-day refund window.

Pink Abnormal Jumbo Earrings: Abreakastudios's Shop
I love stuff with designs like this. The earrings are a nice mix of colors and patterns.

Tea has gotten really popular lately. This seller has tons of satisfied customers so why not join in the fun? That is if you like tea. I don't like tea but I think I want to try this.

Sunny Side Scarf: CherriCherri's Shop
When I came across this I remembered seeing something similar at Kstyle so it was a huge OMG moment. Here's a link to the blog post: Dara's Shredded Neck Piece

Little Key Necklace: ALJoyeria's Shop
I have a thing for necklaces with keys on them. Now that I think of it, I have a key to a lock that was changed after I graduated from high school. Maybe I should do something with it :)

Hair Clip: VaVaRa's Shop
As soon as feathered headbands came in, I wanted one. I still haven't gotten one but I'll get around to it. I love the colors on this clip.

Lock Nut Hardware Dangle Earrings: AdditionsStyle's Shop
These have a sort of steampunk feel to them, no?

A sleeve tattoo without all the pain and the ability to change your mind?

Enjoi :)

Custom self-contained hanging Wall-PC – Charlotte NC Web Design, Development - Glowview Blog

Custom self-contained hanging Wall-PC – Charlotte NC Web Design, Development - Glowview Blog

I really want to try this. I just don't have an extra laptop chilling around. Or $$.

"Why hang a computer from the wall….?

  • Takes up almost zero space
  • It’s cheap, only need an old unused laptop + cheap frame
  • Digital picture frame w/ online syncing
  • Dedicated video game emulation with wireless controller (NES, SNES, Genesis, Playstation)
  • Control music, watch movies, watch TV
  • Browser testing w/o a separate tower + monitor, or KVM switch
  • Security web cam or video conferencing
  • File server, backup, etc.
  • Extend your main PC desktop to this extra display
  • Looks cool, good conversation piece"

NBR Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide

Thursday, February 25, 2010

So we all agree that vista sucks. But if you're stuck with it, not enough green to upgrade to windows 7, not daring enough to make the linux leap into freedom and happiness (don't feel bad, I only did complete linux once. I realized there are some things I can't do without windows. So I use linux for everything and once in a while I use vista for some program that refuses to like linux), you can tweak vista so it's less sucky.

I've used this multiple times, on my computer and others. Usually it was on my laptop after my multiple operating system/dual-boot experiments. Ah, I love doing those :)

NBR Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide

Hello Stranger

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Remember me? Yes me. This? This is my blog. I've come back to reclaim it! Or something.

Western Sunrise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Western Sunrise, western sunrise, western sunrise! Western Sunrise is coming to Tayybah in April! :D
As you can tell, I'm excited.

Ahem. Quoted from the Al-Maghrib Website:

"History is often told from the perspective of the conqueror:

Black Africa was backwards and the pit of darkness
The Dark Ages were the lowest point in man’s history
Columbus discovered an America inhabited with uncivilized savages

Ancient maps depicting exaggerated sizes of the European continent; stories told from a Euro-centric perspective; significant chunks in timelines distorted or removed entirely to cover up empowering truths.

The time is long overdue for the Muslim Ummah to reclaim history.
The timely discovery of a shocking untold story finally unravels
in AlMaghrib Institute’s unparalleled double-weekend seminar
Western Sunrise
Islamic History in Africa, Al-Andalus, and the Americas
Taught by world-renowned scholar
Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick

The world will never look the same as you uncover its secrets thought to have long been lost.
Africa is a treasure cove embedded with scholarly tribes and ilm-powered cities. Expand your knowledge on:
• The roots of Africa and its name
• Africa’s first encounter with Islam
• The role of Africans as Sahaba of Rasoolullah (salla Allahu alayhi wassalam)
• The extensive advancements of Islamic scholarship as result of African tribes and schools
• The importance and history of major cities like Timbuktu and Qayrawaan
• Heroes of Africa who sought to it that Islam remains pure upon the Quran and Sunnah
• The various movements and eras Africa witnessed among the Muslims

“Timbuktu’s thousands of manuscripts and its deep legacy destroy racist notions of Black inferiority and educational backwardness. Timbuktu gives solid proof of a powerful African past and an unbroken chain of African scholarship.”

Andalus (today’s Spain) bred heroes in the face of oppression and became the epitome for advanced civilizations. While Europe was left in the Dark Ages, the light was shining on Islam’s Golden Age. Enrich your history with facts on:
• The fall of the tyrannical rule of the Visigoth
• The spread of justice and land reform under the light of Islam
• Successful openings (futoohaat) of major cities in Spain
• Establishments of amazing complexes of palaces and gardens like Madinat-az-Zahra
• Treatment of Christians and Jews under the Muslim rule
• Muslim advancements in language, arts, and sciences that brought Europe out of the darkness
• The causes and lessons of the eminent fall of a 700-year empire

“At its height around 1000 A.D., Cordoba had over 200,000 houses, 600 mosques, 900 public baths, 50 hospitals, and several large markets that catered for all branches of trade and commerce, including 15,000 weavers! The streets were lit for 10 miles in any direction, an innovation that took London and Paris 700 years to achieve!”
America’s history often starts with the discovery of Columbus; yet little is told of the rich Islamic history of the Americas both before and after the accidental arrival of Columbus. Enlighten yourself with facts on:

• Muslim naval explorations into the Atlantic
• Ancient maps and atlases of the Americas accurately drawn by Muslim cartographers
• Discovery of 8th Century artefacts and coins in the Caribbean
• Genealogical and linguistic evidences linking American natives to Muslim Africans
• Role of Muslims in saving Islam in the hearts of slaves
• Role of Muslims in the resistance of slavery and return to Africa
“One of the leading forces in the resistance to slavery was the Muslim population who by the very nature of their faith were independent and unwilling to submit to oppression.”

"When I was very young, little kid in a Masjid in Winnipeg, the uncles gathered the youth together for a lecture from this vising speaker from Toronto. I loved his lecture, and I was so impressed that he was using names and terms that I, as a kid, was familiar with. (come to think of it, that may be the first time I was exposed to that style, it became my style years later). It was sh.Abdullah Hakim Quick."

Why even study history? Truly understanding where we come from and the achievements of Muslims before us strengthens our resolve in the face of global and individual trials and tribulations. Critical

I think I wrote these while I was watching something. Probably will omit some stuff and put it in my penzu instead. Penzu is a free online diary service.

perhaps there isn't a market for that kind of thing. Is it because women who actually get weathered by life and are barely fairy godmothers anymore don't exist? Is it because no matter what we do, we still want to be superwoman and save the world? why do women fret? because they feel that they can't fix. why do we always want to fix it? we always want to do something? if i'm not that fairy, i'm not wanted huh? if i can't change your life and cover your wounds, i guess i'm not a woman.

some people's faces are incapable of hiding anything. it's a direct connection from their hearts to their face.

deflection hurts a lot of people. at the end, you don't actually feel better, and the other party hurts more for no reason.

it is virtually pointless to do something out of insincerety

do not become a burden to those you love... easier said than done, huh?

and then there's another one, do not become a burden to yourself. i can write a fifty page paper on that one.

in every situation you weigh the pros and cons, which is the lesser evil?

it is also necessary to leave the greater evil with as much grace as possible.

my professor said that we are a passive generation. but for me, even watching tv and movies is not passive. i analyze the hell out of everything. it's a lot of work.

if you want something from someone, as that person is not giving it to you and they're causing you stress and they won't even bargain, and another person bearing the same thing passes by, naturally your head will turn. and maybe as the stress builds and as you try to push the person to bargain, you'll see it in reach with the other person and one day you'll be standing in front of that person. the other person will then realize that you are gone and will protest. everywhere it's give and take. we do not engage anything without giving or taking. if none of these things are happening, we're going to lose interest. there are some who every engagement is synergic. but for many, every engagement is a one-way flow. if there is a guarantee of that one-way flow, they'll make it a two way. but that two way street is very conditional. balance is something that is the closest we'll get to perfection on our own. balance. the human perfection.

have you ever met someone who has ugly eyes?

if you lash out all those who are around you, where do you expect to find happiness? your atmosphere will be sour like the hearts of the people you wounded. even those you love will hurt from seeing contaminants in their drinks

quick to anger and be happy as things go or don't go your way. that makes you selfish.

no ones going to want to empathize with you if two seconds ago you were an evil witch biting people with your words. even if it wasn't them being bitten because it doesn't suit you. to inflict that kind of pain on others you should be able to handle that which afflicts you.

this is so exciting i'm about to pull a muscle. ok, we get it. you're sad. can we move on now?

the harry potter affect. the moment you touch her she's going to die from pain.

each person should take responsibility for their own actions, what others do shouldn't justify what you do

it's easy to be found among a million and it's easy to disappear among a trio

I remember the context for some of this stuff, not all.
